It should be noted that the Dragonball Wiki works mostly from the dubbed anime while my primary source for playing Vegeta is the manga.

PERSONALITY:
Vegeta is, as of several minutes ago, the last survivor of the alien, warrior race, the saiyans. He's also the last Prince of all Saiyans and is more than a bit of an egomaniac because of this. Vegeta was raised to believe he was destined to be the strongest warrior of his race and of the universe, though his life after the destruction of his home planet never really matched up to that. Though incredibly powerful he was never strong enough to secure his own freedom from Frieza until he finally died at his hand and Goku managed to avenge their race instead. Vegeta values strength above all else, both as a matter of his pride as the Prince of all Saiyans and as a way of protecting himself after the exceedingly harsh life he's had.
Though acutely ashamed of his failures, Vegeta does believe it's his destiny to be the strongest in the universe and is very arrogant because of it. This frequently gets him into trouble where he overestimates his own strength in comparison to his opponent, such as during his fights with Frieza on Namek and when he allowed Cell to ascend into his Perfect Form. Vegeta is capable of admitting his own weakness when it's made obvious to him, he's not arrogant to the point of blindness- he's just a little too optimistic sometimes. He has trained incredibly hard to gain the strength he does have, nearly killing himself with his training during the years leading up the androids in his attempts to become a Super Saiyan and working diligently in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in preparation for the Cell Games. He's an intelligent fighter when he manages to keep his cool, with a very tactical mind and incredible control over his own power. That combined with his endurance and determination to never surrender make him a formidable foe to just about anyone.
Inclined towards brooding and violent tantrums, Vegeta has a huge temper and frequently barks out reprimands and interruptions when he feels it's necessary. Otherwise he tends to keep to himself, keeping his distance from the Earthlings when they are gathered together. He usually has a glare affixed to his face unless he's particularly shocked or disorientated. Bulma seems to get those kinds of reactions out of him quite easily, as her fearless attitude throws him off guard and her casual flirting embarrasses him. He refuses to consider himself friends with any of the Earth warriors, acting as though he's still disgusted by them, though he does seem more tolerant of some of them such as Gohan, Piccolo and Krillen. Still an asshole though. He's part of the team, but refuses to admit it and some of the others are also unsure of his motives. He claims to hate Goku most of all, but there's also a deep respect for his rival for his power and he has admitted that Goku is the superior warrior between the two of them. He just refuses to let things stay that way, something Goku probably appreciates.
Some time during the three years leading up to the android arrival, Vegeta and Bulma managed to become close enough to hook up and have a son together. The details of this are not made clear by canon, but it definitely seems as though neither of them were planning anything quite that serious and it did not end on a high note. Vegeta repeatedly affirms that Trunks and Bulma mean nothing to him, having spent his life viewing emotional attachments as a weakness he wants nothing to do with. He even attacks his own son to allow Cell to transform into something Vegeta believes will provide a better challenge. However, it turns out that at some point Trunks did worm his way into Vegeta's heart, likely without Vegeta even realising. When Cell kills Trunks, Vegeta is at first stunned and then enraged, so much so that he forgets that Trunks is one of the few warriors there that could be wished back to life. He attacks Cell, disregarding his own safety. It seems that this is the event that causes him to re-evaluate his relationship with his son as during the following years he will stay on Earth to train him and be with him. His relationship with Bulma is still up in the air at this point but one assumes he is fonder of her than he'll admit, even to himself.
ABILITIES:
Besides being an incredibly talented martial artist, Vegeta has terrifying super strength and energy both naturally and through decades of training. He can punch a mountain till it gets turned to dust, he can fly, he can fight in five hundred times Earth's gravity, and he can blow stuff up (he's really good at that part). That part is also due to his enormous "ki", the living energy all beings have. Being very in tune with his ki means that Vegeta can also sense the presence of others and how strong they are, unless they deliberately hide it from him.
As a saiyan, Vegeta also has a heightened sense of smell that's as good as a dogs. He also heals easier than a human and becomes stronger every time he heals from a life threatening injury. As a Super Saiyan he is capable of transforming into the legendary warrior!! Meaning his strength multiplies by around fifty and he becomes a blond.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
Kakarot was dead. Trunks was dead. All his hard work and training, and he'd still failed to so much as avenge his son, only ending up a liability for Gohan in what was already the fight of the boy's life. Vegeta slowly flew away from the site of that final battle, holding his injured arm and looking for a place isolated from all other life where he could rest. He didn't want to go to the Lookout to be healed by Dende and listen to those idiots celebrating and mourning. He just wanted to rest and gather his thoughts.
Flying steadily, Vegeta finally came across a patch of forest in the mountains that he swiftly dropped into. The prince gingerly sat down beneath a tree, wincing from pain only slightly. His injuries weren't severe, Gohan had protected him from Cell for the most part. What hurt most of all was his pride and the confusing sense of loss he still felt. It made no sense. Trunks was likely being wished back to life at that very moment and he shouldn't miss a low class wretch like Kakarot. The fool had made his choice. But his helplessness in this battle and the loss of his rival just cemented the fear he'd had as he'd left the scene of battle- he would never fight again. Not as he had in the past. He'd never done anything but train to defeat someone, to achieve a goal, and suddenly that was gone. What was he supposed to do now?
Vegeta leaned back, resting against the tree, still tense as he watched the sky turn black. He knew what that meant. Closing his eyes, he found himself searching the Earth for a familiar power signature despite himself. He stayed that way, perfectly still, until it suddenly appeared like a bright light on the edge of his vision. All the tension left his body and he let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding. His son was alive. Suddenly his other concerns didn't seem as important.
